GENERAL APPEARANCE : Muscular, graceful, sweet and gentle  no trace of frailty or coarse appearance. A very specific feature  it is pear-shaped or wedge-shaped.
 

Personality:  Docile, kind and graceful.
 

Energy Level : Moderately active.  
 

Good with children:  Yes.

 

Good with other dogs:  With supervision.

 

Grooming:  Seasonal.

 

Life Expectancy : 08-10  years old.

Bark Level: Bark when needed.

  • HISTORICAL SUMMARY  


Native to the former mining areas of northern England. Its fame spread outside its region of origin, having started in 1877 an association for the creation of the breed. Although his expression is sweet, he is perfectly capable of defending himself, but he will not go looking for a fight. A tough little dog, this unique breed has the appearance of a lamb, but don't be fooled, he's a terrier through and through.  

Country of Origin: Great Britain.

BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT:  It has a friendly temperament, smart and with a hunting instinct,  trusting. Of an affectionate nature.
 

HEAD:

  • CRANIAL REGION  
     

Skull: Well rounded and narrow.
 

Stop : No stop is present.
 

  • FACIAL REGION

 

Snout:  Full under eyes.
 

Nose: Black in color  in the blue copies  and blue and tan, brown in color  in liver and sand specimens.

Jaws and Teeth:  bite  scissor, strong and wide teeth.
 

Lips: Tight and firm.

 

Expression: Graceful.

Eyes: Small in size, triangular in appearance. In blue dogs, dark colored eyes; in blue and brown lighter eyes, in liver and sandy dogs light brown eyes.
 

Ears : Set on low, carried hazelnut-shaped. It has a fine texture and is covered by a layer of short, fine hair.
 

NECK :  Long, thin neck, free from dewlap.

Back: Well developed with an arch over the loin.

 

Chest: Broad and deep.

TAIL: Set on and carried low, thick at the beginning and tapering to the tip.

Any deviation from this standard should be considered a fault and penalized in exact proportion to its severity and its effects on the health and well-being of the dog.  

DISQUALIFYING FAULTS

 

• Aggressiveness or excessive shyness.

• Any dog that shows any sign of physical or behavioral anomaly must be disqualified.

• Atypical dogs.
