GENERAL APPEARANCE : Short-limbed, long-haired and well-muscled, with drooping ears.
 

Personality:  Intelligent,  lively and pleasant.
 

Energy Level : Moderately active.  
 

Good with children:  Yes.

 

Good with other dogs:  With supervision.

 

Grooming:  Seasonal.

 

Life Expectancy : 12-15  years old.

Bark Level: Bark when needed.

  • HISTORICAL SUMMARY  

Result of a cross between the breeds of a male Sealyham Terrier and a female Scottish Terrier, with the aim of creating a hunting terrier breed: light, short-limbed, well-pigmented, with drooping and practical ears, easy to care for and to train. In 1949, Mr. Frantisek Horák from Klánovice, near Prague, began to improve the breed by fixing its characteristics.
 

Country of Origin: Czech Republic.

BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT:  It has a friendly temperament, balanced, meek and cheerful, it is easy to be trained. Reserved with strangers, but calm.

HEAD: Long, not too wide, with the skull plane forming a well-marked stop with the nasal bridge.

  • CRANIAL REGION  
     

Skull: Slightly  wide between the ears and tapering slightly towards the supraorbital arches. It has an occipital protuberance, easy to palpate; moderately prominent cheekbones. Frontal groove only slightly marked.
 

Stop : Apparent but not accented.
 

  • FACIAL REGION

Truffle:  Dark, but may be liver in coffee-brown specimens and black in bluish-grey specimens.
 

Nose bridge: Straight.

Jaws and Teeth:
  Scissor or pincer bite, with strong jaws.
 

Lips: Well developed, thick and well fitted.

 

Expression: Friendly.

Eyes: Brown color varying in shade, medium in size, slightly deep.
 

Ears : Set high, of medium length, drooping and triangular in shape.  
 

NECK :  Medium neck, strong and  arched.
 

  • TRUNK
     

Top Line: Arched.
 

Back: Of medium length, strong.

TAIL: Set on low, with a length between 18 and 20 cm.

Shoulders: Muscular.

Elbows: Free, neither turned in nor out.
 

Feet: Large with well-developed pads.
 

HINDQUARTERS

Hocks: High and developed.

Legs:
  shorts.

Paws :  Large with well-developed pads.
 

  • GAIT/MOVEMENT: Fluent movement with good drive.
     

  • COAT

Hair : Slightly wavy, fine in texture, long. Bright, but not overdone.

  • COLOR: Blue-grey and light coffee-brown. Yellow, gray or white marks are allowed. The base color should always be predominant.

 

SIZE: Females - 27 cm / Males - 29 cm

  • FAULTS  

Any deviation from this standard should be considered a fault and penalized in exact proportion to its severity and its effects on the health and well-being of the dog.  

DISQUALIFYING FAULTS

 

• Aggressiveness or excessive shyness.

• Any dog that shows any sign of physical or behavioral anomaly must be disqualified.

• Atypical dogs.
